Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 15, 2026 · Last updated: November 7, 2026
Crescent Enterprises LLC ("Crescent," "we," "us," or "our") builds mobile applications including Simply Nur and Minaar (together, the "Apps"), and operates the website at alminaar.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We designed our Apps to be privacy-respecting by default. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Location data
Simply Nur: Used on your device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Your location is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers. With your permission, Simply Nur refreshes prayer times in the background when your location changes significantly (e.g., travel between cities) so notifications stay accurate. The Apple Watch and Wear OS (including Galaxy Watch) apps use the same prayer times on the watch. If you open the mosque finder, the area around you is sent to OpenStreetMap's public map service to list nearby mosques; nothing else about you is sent with it.
Minaar: Used to determine Qibla direction, deliver turn-by-turn navigation, and find nearby mosques and halal restaurants. Location is processed on your device wherever possible, and we do not build advertising profiles from your location.
To show maps, routes, and turn-by-turn directions, your location and route are sent to the map provider: Apple Maps on iPhone, and Google Maps with the Google Navigation SDK on Android. When you search for mosques or halal food, the search area is sent to Google Places and to our own mosque and halal-place database (hosted on Google Firebase). Speed limits, speed cameras, school zones, and some mosque results come from OpenStreetMap's public map service, which receives the area around your route. We never store your location on our servers or link it to you.
Background location (Minaar, optional): On iPhone, if you allow "Always" location access, Minaar can recite the travel dua when a journey begins while your phone is in your pocket or connected to CarPlay. On Android, Minaar uses your location while the app is open and during navigation, shown by an ongoing notification. You can change location access in your phone's settings at any time.
1.2 App usage and diagnostic data
Simply Nur uses privacy-focused analytics (PostHog) to understand which features are used, which screens users visit, and to diagnose crashes. This data is associated with an anonymous device identifier, not your name or email, and it never includes your location.
Minaar does not use an analytics service. When one of Minaar's built-in safety limits blocks a paid map lookup, the app sends us only the name of that limit, at most once a day, with no location and no user identifier, so we can keep the service running reliably.
Neither app requires an account. You do not sign in, and we do not ask for your name or email inside the apps.
1.3 Account and subscription data
If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is processed by Apple, Google, or our subscription provider (RevenueCat). We receive a subscription status and anonymous customer ID. We do not receive your payment card details.
1.4 Contact information you provide
If you email us at [email protected] or [email protected], we collect your email address and anything you choose to tell us, solely to respond to you.
1.5 Travel data (Minaar only)
When you plan a road trip, the origin, destination, and waypoints are used to compute your route and the prayer times and mosque stops along it. Saved trips are stored locally on your device.
1.6 Calendar (Minaar only, optional)
If you turn on calendar suggestions, Minaar asks for permission to read your calendar. It looks only at today's events in the next few hours that include an address, and shows them as one-tap destinations. Access is read-only: Minaar never adds, changes, or deletes events, and your calendar is never uploaded to our servers. When you tap a suggested event, only its address is sent to your phone's address-lookup service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) to place it on the map. Minaar does not use Reminders. You can turn this off in the app or in your phone's settings at any time.
1.7 Minaar as your co-pilot
Minaar's co-pilot features are designed to work on your phone, and to send out only what a feature needs:
- Azan, prayer reminders, and prayer-aware arrival times: calculated on your phone. Leave-by reminders (for example, for Jummah) use a route request to the map provider (Apple Maps on iPhone, Google on Android).
- Travel dua, adhkar, and the Listen library: played on your phone. Listen-library audio streams from our audio storage on Cloudflare; no information about you is sent with it.
- Mosques and halal food along your route: the search area is sent to Google Places, OpenStreetMap, and our own Firebase-hosted database.
- Saved places, Jummah mosque, and preferences: stored only on your phone.
- CarPlay and Android Auto: used to show Minaar on your car's screen. Minaar does not read data from your car.
2. How We Use Information
- To deliver the core features of the Apps (prayer times, Qibla, navigation).
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Apps and the Site.
- To diagnose crashes and technical issues.
- To process subscriptions and provide customer support.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We do not use your data to serve targeted advertisements.
- We do not share your precise location with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
4. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the Apps:
- Apple App Store & Google Play — app distribution and in-app purchases.
- RevenueCat — subscription management.
- PostHog (Simply Nur) — product analytics and crash reporting.
- Apple Maps (Minaar on iPhone) — maps, routes, and turn-by-turn navigation.
- Google Maps Platform (Minaar) — Google Maps and the Google Navigation SDK for maps and turn-by-turn navigation on Android, and Google Places for mosque and halal-place search on iPhone and Android.
- Google Firebase (Minaar) — hosts our mosque and halal-place database.
- OpenStreetMap (Simply Nur and Minaar) — public map data for the mosque finder, and for Minaar's speed limits, speed cameras, and school zones.
- EveryAyah and Quran.com (Simply Nur) — Quran recitation audio, text, and translations. They receive only the request for the content, not information about you.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website, delivers the audio for Minaar's Listen library, and runs our own small server that receives subscription status updates from RevenueCat (an anonymous customer ID and subscription status, never payment details).
- Expo / Apple Push / Google FCM — prayer-time and trip notifications.
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing its processing of your data. Minaar's use of Google Maps, the Google Navigation SDK, and Google Places is subject to the Google Maps Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage and Retention
Prayer history, saved trips, preferences, and downloaded content are stored locally on your device. Analytics events are retained by our provider for a rolling period consistent with their default retention policies. If you uninstall the Apps, locally-stored data is removed from your device.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Apps are suitable for users of all ages, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information in our care. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work continually to improve our security posture.
9. International Users
We operate from the United States. If you access our Apps or Site from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective date" at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notice within the Apps.
